Unveiling of Road Renaming Slated for Saturday

An unveiling of King Road's renaming, named in honor of Pfc. Frank Celentano, will be held on Saturday.

After a road in Rocky Point was named after a Navy Cross recipient recently by Brookhaven Town Board members, an unveiling will be held on Saturday afternoon for the sign.

Pfc. Frank Celentano lost his hand in WWII defending his comrades in a trench in the Pacific, and went on to live the rest of his life on King Road in Rocky Point.

Celentano died last summer at the age of 90, and Saturday's ceremony – kicking off at 2 p.m. at the corner of King and Begonia Roads – will mark the hamlet's second road named after a local vet, joining Garland Road, which is named after Lt. John Fernandez, who served in the Iraq War, lost both of his legs in an explosion, and returned home.
