Sheraton Gets Town's Approval for New Hotel, But Holds Off
Sheraton Long Island will hold off on building a new hotel in the Hauppauge Industrial Park, despite waiting more than a year for the town's approval.
Smithtown Town Board approved the Sheraton's proposed plans to build a four-story hotel, the Springhill Suites Marriott, off Motor Parkway in Hauppauge on April 25. The hotel chain has no plans to move forward with construction at this time.

FBI: Smithtown Hacker Bent on Revenge After Losing Promotion
A Smithtown man was arrested Thursday after the FBI said he hacked into his former employer's computer network and caused $90,000 in damages – all because he lost out on a promotion.The FBI said Michael Meneses, 41, was a software engineer at a local manufacturer of high-voltage power supplies when he resigned in December 2011 after getting upset about not moving up the company chain.

School District, Teachers Union Remain DeadlockedA lengthy negotiation session has failed to bring about an agreement between the Kings Park Classroom Teachers Association and the Kings Park Central School District.   According to attorney John Gross, of Ingerman Smith, counsel for the school district, both sides met on March 6, along with a new third party negotiator in a process called superconcilliation. According to Gross, a deal was thought to be in the works, but then stalled. Four points remained at issue, with salary structure, according to Gross, being the biggest concern.

Police Dog Helps Track Port Jefferson Station Pair Charged With Larceny
Canine Officer John Mallia and his dog, Blue, helped track down two alleged Port Jefferson Station quad thieves early Tuesday morning. According to police, Jonathan Delrio and Ray Pena, of Port Jefferson Station, were charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth degree attempted grand larceny, both felonies, for allegedly attempting to steal a quad and possessing a stolen motorcycle after Officer Malia and Blue tracked the suspects for two miles.
