NSBPOA Is Helping Make Rocky Point A Featured Destination

The North Shore Beach Property Owners Association has worked hard to maintain its beach property in Rocky Point and is looking for new members.

Rocky Point resident and president of the North Shore Beach Property Owners Association (NSBPOA), Michael Armando, said the organization has been working for over 80 years to make sure the Rocky Point community began more than just a temporary destination for tourists.

"The association began in 1928 when Rocky Point was just a summer community. People were coming out front the city, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan to spend some time in the bungalows we had," said Armando in a phone interview. "This area was their summer place because people got to enjoy the beautiful area and of course the local beaches."

Armando said the association worked hard to change the Rocky Point area from a short-term destination to a long-term living community where people could buy their first homes and settle down. "The organization worked hard over the years to make this town a 24/7 place to live. It's an all around community now," said Armando.

Over the years, the association has become owners of one and one-eighth of a mile of a secluded beach set aside for members only. Although there is only one beach, the organization has created three entrances with three different parking areas, Beech, Broadway and Friendship.

In addition to the beach, the NSBPOA has a clubhouse on Clubhouse Drive where they host their monthly meetings and parties. Armando said they rent the location out to non-members for a small fee to allow other communities to take advantage of the space. Armando said the organization is always looking for new members.
