Rocky Point Teen Killed in Early Morning Car Crash

Three teens were passengers in a car driven by Ulices Canessa Villatoro, 19, when Suffolk County police said the driver apparently lost control of the car, striking several trees on the side of road on Lowell Avenue, just south of Atlantic Street in Central Islip, just after midnight. 

Andrew O’Connor, 18, of Rocky Point was in the rear driver’s side of the car and was critically injured. He was taken to Southside Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Mt. Sinai Serves as Pilot for SAVE Hotline
The Mount Sinai School District will serve as a pilot district for a county emergency hotline geared towards effective communication during a crisis. 

The School Active Violence Emergency (SAVE) hotline, was demonstrated Friday with school and town officials.

NOAA Predicts Dangerous Hurricane Season
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is still predicting an overly active 2013 Atlantic hurricane season with a 70 percent chance of major storms impacting the Northeast.

In August, NOAA released its updated outlook, which predicts 13 to 19 tropical storms this season, as well as 6 to 9 hurricanes, packing winds 74 miles per hour and higher; and 3 to 5 major hurricanes, with winds of at least 111 miles per hour.
