Week in Review: New Leaders on MP Board of Ed, Gas Station Open After Fire

Miller Place Board of Ed Names New President, VP

The Miller Place Board of Education held elections to name a new president and vice president for the upcoming school year at Monday's meeting.

The two most senior members of the board were elected as Michael Unger becomes president and Brian Neyland will take over as vice president of the board.

Almost One Year After Fire, Rocky Point BP Opens

Last August, a fire tore through the convenience section of the newly opened BP Gas Station on Main Street in Rocky Point. 

That fire was contained to the convenience area by the Rocky Point Fore Department, but the building was "completely torn apart", according to fire chief Ken Staufer, who spoke with Patch shortly after the first. 

Former Boutique & Spa Remains Dark [Empty In Mt. Sinai]

The Wedgewood Shopping Center in Mt. Sinai has had plenty of turnover through the years, and there are currently two vacancies in the building. 

One of those up for rent is Cetta Boutique & Spa, which was a nail and day spa along with a boutique specializing in jewelry before closing. 

Expansion Ongoing At Marshalls Center

Construction is currently ongoing for an expansion on the western end of the Marshalls center building in Miller Place. 

The construction began earlier in June, and there is nothing yet set in stone for the expanded piece. 

Line Work Causes Slight Delays

Line work at the intersection of Route 25a and Mt. Sinai has caused slight delays Tuesday afternoon. 

The work has a part of one of the westbound lanes of Route 25a leading up to the intersection closed and has traffic backed up to the Echo Ave. merger in Miller Place.
