Budget Passes By 64 Percent In Miller Place

Miller Place budget passes overwhelmingly.

Residents came out to the polls Tuesday and passed a $67.3 million Miller Place budget for the 2013-’14 season. The budget passed by a vote of 871 to 486, 64 percent.

The budget included a 3.94 percent tax levy increase within the cap, which meant it needed to pass by just the majority (50 percent plus one).

"Obviously the district and the Board of Education are thrilled by the fact that the community passed the budget by an overwhelming margin," said superintendent Marianne Higuera.

Three new members were voted to the Board of Education as Johanna Testa received the majority of votes, 902, while Noelle Dunlop came in second with 880 votes. The two will begin three-year terms. Michael Manspeizer received 859 votes and will take over the one year remaining on Ann O’Brien’s term, who resigned from the board in March.

The library budget also passed, 1,102-249.
