Former Youth Dance Club Remains Vacant [Empty in Miller Place]

A former safe club for kids has been empty for over a year.

While has brought extra consumer traffic to the strip mall, some storefronts at 465 Route 25A in Miller Place remain vacant.

The double storefront, with 2,200 square feet of space, was recently leased by the North Shore Youth Council. The idea behind it was to build a supervised dance club where high-school age children could hang out in a safe environment and keep them off the streets.

About one year after opening, the club closed down. Before that the space was rented out to Brownwell Arts, a martial arts studio.

Inside you can still see the dance club set up.  The dance floor is still there, along with the space for the dj booth.

Bob Damon, a real estate agent for Soundview Realty Group, said the space would be a good fit for a dance studio.

"The high ceilings make it perfect for that," he said. "Gymnastics could take advantage of it too."

Damon also said that he believes the owner prefers to avoid splitting it up into two separate storefronts.
