After hosting the same business - under a few different owners - since it opened in Port Jefferson Commons 26 years ago, a 3,000-square-foot commerical space on Route 347 is looking for someone new to open up shop.  closed in March after its lease expired.

Smithtown

The  located at 323 East Main Street in Smithtown, has closed. One drive past the gas station and you'll see the marquee missing numbers for the prices, cones blocking the pumps and a bare convenience store.

Riverhead

The killing of Trayvon Martin, 17, in Sanford, Florida has polarized a nation. Debate continues to rage over the case, which occurred on February 26 when George Zimmerman, who was on neighborhood watch, allegedly shot Martin in the gated community.

Locally, educators and community leaders say education is critical.

Theresa Drozd, violence prevention coordinator for grades K through 12 in the , said discussions have been held in  classes about the Trayvon Martin case.

North Fork

With the North Fork’s school budgets going before the public on Tuesday, May 15, local school boards worked on keeping the budget within the state’s 2 percent tax cap.

Though tax levy increases are over two percent in most of the districts, because of the state’s formula to calculate what constitutes the tax cap, all districts except for Greenport and New Suffolk will stay within the tax cap.
