Stony Brook University officials and state lawmakers will break ground and unveil architectural renderings for a new state-of-the-art Marine Sciences Center on Friday for the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences in Southampton.

The new 15,000-square-foot research and teaching facility will replace the existing waterfront research center at the campus.

The Comsewogue School Board adopted a $78.3 million budget for a revote on Monday night, according to a report in Newsday. The new budget will come in at the New York State tax cap, requiring a simple majority to pass.

In May, to garner the required 60 percent supermajority vote to institute a tax cap-piercing budget that sought to raise the tax levy by 4.5 percent.

Riverhead

Over 40 Riverhead school buses were broken into and vandalized on Thursday night.

According to Riverhead School Superintendent Nancy Carney, on Thursday night, several individuals broke into the buses and allegedly discharged fire extinguishers, painted graffiti, and damaged electrical and mechanical systems.

All eyes are on the MTA Long Island Railroad Station train station in Riverhead this week, as Town Supervisor Sean Walter said some "big" plans could possibly be on the table for the train stop.

Walter said he recently had a conversation with MTA Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams, who said the MTA and town can work together on a "broad-based" request for proposals on possible businesses that might be sited at the train station.
