Things To Do: #68 – Learn How to Knit

Our series of "100 things to do" in our area continues with a craft you can learn from a local business.

If you've never been to Knitter's Knitche, consider stopping by: With its displays of handmade projects and yarn everywhere, it kind of invokes the cozy feeling you get from grandma's house.

That's why learning to knit is #68 on our list of "100 Things to Do in the Miller Place and Rocky Point Areas." Knitter's Knitche is located at 745 Route 25A in Miller Place.

The store is just about to launch its April class series. You can sign up for three-week sessions of classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays (choose from 10 a.m. to noon or 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) or on Fridays (10 a.m. to noon).

The store also offers classes in crocheting (Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon) as well as other specialized techniques. Classes range from $25 to $10 (materials not included).

Knitting and crocheting are enjoying a surge in popularity thanks to a "do-it-yourself" mentality and the return of knit fashions on runways, according to The New York Times.
