Week in Review: Concessions Aid Miller Place Budget

A roundup of top headlines from the week that was, including an update on the Miller Place budget and Mt. Sinai Superintendent search.

With Mt. Sinai Superintendent Anthony Bonasera retiring at the end of the year, the Board of Education has been working with Ray Fell, a BOCES search consultant, to help in bringing on a replacement.

The search has progressed over the last few months and is now down to five candidates, according to an update on the district website.

Along with the school budget votes on May 15, residents will also be asked to vote for the open seats on their district's Board of Education. After seats expire on June 30, those elected will officially take over. Click the link above for a full list of candidates.

When the Miller Place Board of Education , it was announced that some clubs and programs that were on the chopping block would be restored, but it wasn't known how many.

At Wednesday's meeting, Superintentent Susan Hodun presented the changes to the budget and announced that all co-curriculars and athletics that were in danger have been restored thanks to concessions and other factors. Certain classes and the positions associated with them were also restored.

It's been three weeks since 12-year-old Rocky Point student Johnny Vento was while riding a mini scooter. Vento is currently in ICU Unit and is battling his way back to a hopeful recovery, but the road is going to be difficult. M

onetary issues are already arising due to Johnnyʼs parents' desire to be by his side. Now, the community is stepping up to help Johnny and his family during their fight. A group called Johnny's Journey has been created by Rocky Point residents Bob Lo Nigro and Carrie Schley.
