Weekend Planner: 'Tis the Season for Santa Photos and Letters

Take photos with Santa in Rocky Point and get your child's letters delivered to the North Pole in Miller Place; plus more this weekend.

Annual Rocky Point PTA Holiday Boutique

When/Where: Saturday, 9 a.m. at Rocky Point Middle School.

What: The PTA's 2012 Holiday Boutique will feature a Cookie Walk, Santa Pictures, Scholastic Book Fair, raffles, entertainment, vendors and more. Kick off the holiday season this Saturday.

Live Music at Crazy Beans

When/Where: 8 p.m. Saturday at Crazy Beans.

What: Acoustic Downtime performs live at Crazy Beans in Miller Place. Free admission and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

'Drop and Shop' at Little Leaders Learning Center

When/Where: 12 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Little Leaders,
176 N Country Rd, Mount Sinai.

What: If you need to take some time and shop, or clean, or just relax without the kids this holiday season, Little Leaders in Mt. Sinai is offering a safe and supervised environment to drop off your kids.

Friends and Family Night at Port Jeff Sports

When/Where: Saturday, 6 p.m. at Port Jeff Sports, 1395 Route 112 Port Jeff Station.

What: Port Jeff Sports is celebrating over 40 years of business with raffles, door prizes, sports trivia, discounts and more. Santa might even stop by for a visit. Must bring attached flyer with you for discounts.

Give The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Drive

When/Where: 10 a.m., Sunday at 25 Crystal Brook Hollow Rd, Mount Sinai.

What: Support Jesse Pallas and all those in need of a bone marrow transplant by getting swabbed Sunday at the Port Jeff Volunteer Ambulance Company.

Postman Pete

When/Where: 12:30 p.m., Sunday at the William Miller House.

What: Children get their prewritten letter to Santa stamped for delivery by Postman Pete for delivery to the North Pole (pre-registration was required). Families can come enjoy refreshments in the historic 1720 Wm. Miller House and sing along with Miller Place High School choral group.

But I also blame the absent NO vote. They need to be sent a message-we need a majority no vote but that will never happen. Glad I am out of here in 2 years. Can't imagine trying to live here and pay these taxes on social security and my 401K that tanked in 2008 while I was making up the teachers loss on their pension and paying my health insurance & theirs at the same time. So boo hoo teachers you have to spend money on the kids while I spend money on you.

Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
