Always Leave Your Heat On in the Winter

Reasons why you should always keep your home heating on in the winter.

Frozen pipes can cause extremely costly damage to your home.

Turning off the heat when you are not home, will not only cost you more in home heating oil, it can also potentially cause thousands of dollars in unforeseen damages to your heating system and property.

Frozen pipes are one of the most common problems with turning your home temperature down too low. When water freezes it has a tendency to expand. Expanding water inside of an enclosed space like your pipes can cause pressure of over 2,000 pounds per square inch, and will lead to bursting of your pipes.

Bursting pipes are not only costly to fix, it can also lead to water damage to the rest of your property. The damage a burst pipe can cause should not be underestimated, as they can pour out several hundreds of gallons of water per hour!

Another unintentional damage that can occur when turning your home heating oil burner off when you are not home is cracking plaster. Plaster is temperature sensitive and turning your heat off can cause plaster to warp and cause unsightly cracks in your walls and ceilings.
