After Chopper Search, Cops Find Man Wanted on Warrant

A man first spotted by an officer at 7-Eleven fled the store when he was seen, according to police, but was caught later on.

While a helicopter search for a man in the Rocky Point area proved unsuccessful on Sunday, Suffolk County Police eventually picked up a man wanted on a bench warrant who had fled police earlier in the day.

One Patch reader had heard that there was an armed robbery at 7-Eleven, and while that's where the man was first spotted, no robbery was reported. As it happened, according to Suffolk Police, the man was spotted by an officer who knew that there was a warrant out for him.

According to police, an officer tried to approach the man in the store, though he proceeded to flee the scene. Eventually, a helicopter was called in to search for the man, whose identity police did not release.

While the man was not immediately found by cops, he was located later on by another police officer and arrested.
