Cause of Saturday Night Fire Undetermined; Foul Play Ruled Out

No injuries were reported in the Miller Place fire.

Town officials confirmed on Tuesday that the cause of a Saturday night fire that caused significant damage to a Griffen Road home remains unknown, however foul play was ruled out.

According to Brookhaven Town spokesman Jack Krieger, the cause of the Miller Place fire does not seem to be suspicious and the investigation was closed by the Town Fire Marshal.

"There were no reported injuries and the cause is undetermined," he said via email. Krieger added that two vehicles in and near the garage were destroyed in the blaze.

The Miller Place Fire Department was called to the scene at 7:10 p.m., according to Chief Kyle Markott. Markott was first to respond and said he found heavy flames blowing out of the garage area of the house.

Departments from Sound Beach, Mt. Sinai, Terryville and Rocky Point provided manpower to assist the MPFD. Middle Island Fire Department covered any other calls in Miller Place during the fire.
