UPDATE: Driver Cited, Road Closed After Dump Truck Flips (PHOTOS)

After a truck overturned in Miller Place Monday morning, the jaws of life were used to save the trapped driver.

Update: According to Suffolk Police, North Country Road remained closed eastbound for a portion of Monday afternoon as Verizon and LIPA worked on a utility pole that was struck. The truck did not dump any debris.

The driver, Gregory Vanostrand, 34, of Port Jeff, was injured and taken to Stony Brook University Medical center. He was cited for second degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 

Police said the accident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. Monday.

Original Story (Published 11:02 a.m.): A truck overturned Monday morning in Miller Place, and the Miller Place Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to extricate the driver, who was trapped underneath the steering wheel.

Aviation was placed on standby, but the patient was transported to the hospital on the ground, according to MPFD First Assistant Chief Kyle Markott. The truck overturned near the intersection of North Country Road and Hancock Place. Chief Carl Schroeter was in charge of fire department operations, Markott said.

But I also blame the absent NO vote. They need to be sent a message-we need a majority no vote but that will never happen. Glad I am out of here in 2 years. Can't imagine trying to live here and pay these taxes on social security and my 401K that tanked in 2008 while I was making up the teachers loss on their pension and paying my health insurance & theirs at the same time. So boo hoo teachers you have to spend money on the kids while I spend money on you.

Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
