The Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead recently received a donation of hand-knitted baby blankets, hats and sweaters from the Ladies Auxiliary.

Catherine Schmitt, the Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer, made the items that were given to the jail to distribute to incarcerated women with newborn babies. Women who give birth while incarcerated are permitted to stay with their infants in the facility’s nursery.
