Police: Rocky Point Man Robbed Two Banks, Arrested in Movie Theater Parking Lot

Robert Edlund, 55, is charged with two counts of third degree robbery.

A Rocky Point man who police say robbed two banks in three days was arrested shortly after the last robbery on Monday afternoon in a movie theater parking lot. 

According to police, Robert Edlund, 55, entered Suffolk County National Bank, located at 2801 Route 112 in Medford, at about 2 p.m. Monday and approached a teller with a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the Edlund’s demands and Edlund fled the scene with cash, police said.

Sixth Precinct police officers, Highway Patrol officers and officers from Canine and Aviation Sections searched for the suspect, who was located a short time later, hiding under a tractor trailer parked in the parking lot of the Island 16 Cinema in Holtsville, police said.

An investigation by Pattern Crime Unit detectives determined that Edlund was also responsible for the robbery of a Bridgehampton National Bank, located at 75 Route 25A in Rocky Point, on July 19.

Edlund is charged with two counts of third degree robbery. Edlund was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was due to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
