2nd Council is only primary in the Town of Brookhaven.

In the only Brookhaven Town Council Primary, incumbent Jane Bonner (C/R, Rocky Point) squares off against Ray Negron (R, Mt. Sinai) in the Republican Primary.

Councilwoman Bonner has served the Town of Brookhaven since elected in 2007. Bonner spearhead the Route 25A Corridor study in 2008 and has worked on countless projects in the district since elected.

Ray Negron is a former prosecutor with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Negron is a former New York City firefighter who earned his law degree from Touro Law School in 2001.

"On election day, only one candidate per line can be on the ballot," Negron said. "This primary has one registered Republican in it."

Negron petitioned to run a GOP Primary but after being put on the ballot after submitting the petition that included one-thousand plus signatures to the county’s Board of Elections, it was by the Supreme Court after an action was commenced by Bonner. Negron appealed the decision, and won.

"The incumbent believed that she had the right to make that allegation and keep the Republican voters from voting for their candidate," Negron said. "When that decision reached the appelate decision it was a 4-0 vote to put me back on the ballot. I think that says a lot."

Bonner was last challenged in a primary last year and won with 77 percent of the vote.

The 2nd Council District covers the North Shore from Mount Sinai to Wading River and includes portions of Ridge, Middle Island and Coram.

Polls close at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Voters can find their polling place here.
