Rocky Point Loses School Aid with Cuomo Veto

Governor will not restore funds lost due to blown filing deadlines for construction reimbursements.

The Rocky Point School District is among five New York State districts affected by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's veto of legislation to restore funds lost when the school missed filing deadlines for state reimbursements of construction costs.

Rejection of the bill means an annual loss of $181,000 in state building aid for the projects, which commenced in 2006, over a 20 year period.

“It’s a great disappointment, because this legislation had significant precedent, a number of other districts currently in the same position, and the full support of the State Senate and State Assembly,” Superintendent Michael F. Ring said in a statement. "We believed that with the sponsorship of our local legislators and the full support of the State Legislature, the Governor would provide his support."
