Rocky Point Middle School Students Take Rachel's Challenge

Students accept pledge to start "a chain reaction" of kindness.

After the tragedy at Columbine High School back on April 20, 1999, six inspiring journals of the first victim of the shootings, Rachel Scott, were found.

Since then, millions of students have taken her challenge and pledged to treat others with respect. After students at , Rachel Scott's uncle, Larry Scott, went to the Rocky Point Middle School to inspire even more students to do the same.

"Start a chain reaction," he said to the students. "Think about the little things that you can do to improve the lives of others"

The middle school PTA provided blue "I Accept" wristbands and shirts for students who accepted the challenge and the school has developed a Friends of Rachel Club to help spread kindness throughout.

130 students were chosen to participate in a Friends of Rachel training session. Those select students have taken the responsibility to help change the culture of the middle school and set positive examples toward other students.
