Rocky Point Names Class of 2013 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Rocky Point High School seniors Sidarth Menon, Elizabeth Kidney and Matthew Amoscato have been named this year’s Class of 2013 valedictorian, salutatorian and exhortation speaker,respectfully.

During their time in Rocky Point, these students have worked to createa perfect balance between their commitment to academics and extracurricularactivities as they stood as leaders of the 243-member Class of 2013.

Sidarth Menon – Valedictorian

Earlier this year, Menon was granted one of the College Board’s highest honors by being named an AP Scholar with Distinction. Outside of the classroom, Menon is a competitive tennis player, drum major for the marching band, president of the Science Club, captain of the Science Bowl and vice president of Students Against Destructive Decisions. Additionally, he contributes to the community as a peer tutor to many students of all grades. He will be attending the University of Pittsburgh in the fall,where he will major in history.

Elizabeth Kidney – Salutatorian

While at the high school, Kidney has taken on every honors and AP course available to her. She was named an AP Scholar with Honor by the College Board and a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Kidney is also a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Math Honor Society and an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Over the years, she has worked on the planning committee, the entertainment chairperson and a Relay For Life co-captain. She also volunteers her time as a peer mentor and tutor for younger students at the schooland in the community and has volunteered at the Wooded Acres Animal Hospital. She will be attending St. Joseph’s College in the fall.

Matthew Amoscato – Exhortation Speaker

Amoscato was named an AP Scholar with Honor earlier this year. As an athlete, he has been an important member of the varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse teams. He is president of the Varsity Club and a member of the Be a Nicer Neighbor club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. He has committed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point to further his education.
