Whiz Kids: Miller Place Twins Both Named A.P. Scholars

Luke and Daniel Heuskin, seniors at Miller Place High School, have excelled in and out of the classroom.

Names: Luke and Daniel Heuskin - Age 18

School: Miller Place High School - Grade 12

Accomplishments: Luke will have taken nine Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses during his high school career. He was recognized by the College Board as an A.P. Scholar and has been on the high honor roll.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society for Italian and was recipient of the Art Award for Excellence in Drawing and Painting as an 11th grader.

Luke was on the Varsity Spring Track team, running the mile, as well as the Cross Country team. He has volunteered with Adopt-a-Highway, the Port Jefferson Library and a local soup kitchen. He has also done nursing home visits through his church's youth group. The senior is considering majoring in English and Computer Science and has not yet decided on a college.

Twin brother Daniel was also recognized by the College Board as an A.P. Scholar. He will have taken eight A.P. courses, has been on the high honor roll and was awarded the National Merit Letter of Commendation. Luke received his high school's Excellence in Global History and Geography Award as a 9th grader and took second place in the Ayn Rand Institute's 2010 Anthem Essay Contest.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society for Italian.

Daniel's photography was featured in Miller Place High School's Entre Nous Literary Magazine. He was also on the Varsity Spring Track team, running the 800 meter race, as well as the Cross Country team. Daniel has volunteered his time with Adopt-a-Highway, the Mary Brennan Inn soup kitchen and has participated in nursing home visits with his church youth group.  He has also participated musically in his church's services. He has not chosen a college yet, but is considering majoring in Environmental Studies/Sciences with a minor in Literature or History.
