The AMP1 Stand-Up Amputee basketball team is traveling the country playing games to benefit Sandy relief this year, and the team will face off against faculty in Rocky Point and Shoreham-Wading River Dec. 14 and 15.

The team faced the Shoreham-Wading River faculty one-and-a-half years ago and will be taking them on again Dec. 15, 7 p.m. at Shoreham-Wading River High School. On Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Rocky Point faculty will take on the AMP1 team. Tickets cost $5 and proceeds benefit Sandy relief.

Following the game in Rocky Point, there will be a Chinese auction, organized by
the Booster Club. Proceeds from the auction will be used to help support character education programs at the high school.

The only organized team of amputees playing stand-up basketball in the country, AMP1 launched their inaugural national tour in 2011 and stops in Dallas, New York, Florida, North Carolina, Los Angeles, Detroit and more have garnered sold out games and a growing fan base.
