Eagles Scoreboard: Boys Beat Miller Place Again

Boys basketball gets second win against the Panthers.

The Eagles took down crosstown rival Miller Place for the second time this season Thursday before losing to first-place Harborfields by ten on Friday.

Against Miller Place, Kodi Lubkeman, Steve Soltysik and Joe Kingston each scored 14 points while center Andreas Vouliakis's double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) helped earn the Eagles their second League V victory of this season. Both have come against the Panthers.

The Eagles outscored Miller Place 24-8 in the second quarter en-route to the 66-51 victory. The Eagles back on Jan. 6 for their first league win and now earned their second against them in the rematch.

On Friday, the Eagles fought hard against Harborfields (9-0) but ultimately lost, 68-58.

After falling behind 23-10 in the first quarter, the Eagles outscored Harborfields 48-45 the rest of the way. Vouliakis scored 18 points to lead the Eagles while Lubkeman added 16 and Soltysik scored 12. Lucas Woodhouse led Harborfields with 19 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds.

What's Next

At 2-7 with just three games remaining, the Eagles are out of the playoff hunt. They play Islip (6-3) Tuesday, Sayville (1-8) Friday and may have a chance to play spoiler against Eastport-South Manor (5-4) next Tuesday.

Girls Basketball

The Eagles' tough season continued last week with two more league losses to drop to 0-10 on the season.

On Thursday, the Eagles fell to Miller Place 62-44 thanks to Marlaina Sherman's 32 points and 23 rebounds. Annie Kennedy and senior captain Shannon Grodotzke continued their solid season's for Rocky Point with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

On Friday, the Eagles faced a tough task up against an undefeated Harborfields (9-0) team and lost, 63-34.

Grodotzke had a great game with 21 of the Eagles' 34 points but didn't get much help as five other players combined for just 13 points. Harborfields got points from 10 different players in the win.

What's Next?

The Eagles still have three chances to notch their first league win of the season. They travel to Islip (4-5) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m and are home against Sayville (1-9) Friday at 5:45p.m. Sayville's only league win of the season came against the Eagles on Jan. 18. In that game, a 41-33 loss for the Eagles, Sayville outscored them 17-6 in the second quarter, an 11-point swing in an eight-point loss which proved costly.

If they Eagle can avoid a bad quarter like that in the rematch, they'll have a good shot at their first league win before finishing up the season next tuesday at Eastport-South Manor.
