Former State-Champion Wrestler from Rocky Point Transfers to Michigan

Former Rocky Point Eagle Stephen Dutton will join the Michigan Wolverines wrestling team in his junior collegiate season.

graduate and two-time New York State wrestling champion Stephen Dutton has transfered to the University of Michigan and will now wrestle as a Wolverine, according to a release on the university website.

After graduating from Rocky Point in 2010 coming off his second straight state title, Dutton went to Lehigh University and was a two-time NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds there. He will be a junior in 2012-13 and will be immediately eligible to compete for the Wolverines.

"We're very excited to have Stephen joining us at Michigan," said head coach Joe McFarland. "He comes in with great experience at the highest level of collegiate competition and has proven himself against some of the country's best. I expect him to have a big impact in our program and contribute to an extremely competitive training environment."

In his final two seasons at Rocky Point, Dutton posted a perfect 95-0 record established a new Long Island record for career wins with 227. Click here to read more on Dutton's transfer.
