Mount Sinai Football Advances to Finals, Miller Place Suffers Upset

A look at how local sports teams fared in their playoff contests over the weekend.

The Fall sports postseason is wrapping up, and a few local teams remaining played this weekend for a chance to either extend or cap off their great seasons. Here's how they fared:

Miller Place Football 14 - Westhampton 19

The second-seeded Panthers' fantastic season ended abruptly in an upset loss at home to Westhampton Saturday. Miller Place took a 14-13 lead in to the fourth quarter but Westhampton quarterback Jack Murphy took it 14 yards in to the end zone to cap off a win. Miller Place finished 8-2 overall this season.

Mount Sinai Football 21 - Shoreham-Wading River 0

Two local teams faced off in the Div. IV semifinals, and the No. 2 seeded Mustangs took advantage of home field advantage and shut out the Wildcats to advance to the finals thanks to three rushing touchdowns from Mark Donadio. Mt. Sinai will take on No.1 Mercy at Stony Brook University tentatively scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m.

Miller Place Field Hockey 0 - Pittsford Sutherland 2

After clinching division, county and Long Island championships, the Panthers fell in the state semi-finals to Pittsford Sutherland 2-0 Saturday.
