Veteran's Day Services, Chefs Gala, Casting Seminar This Week

Here's a look at what's happening in Miller Place-Rocky Point this week.

- Sound Beach Civic Association Veteran's Day services. The Sound Beach Civic Association is planning a Veteran’s Day parade beginning at 11 a.m. at the Vets Memorial on New York Avenue in Sound Beach. Students from the Rocky Point and Miller Place High Schools will perform. It’s a free event.  

- Chefs for Impact Gala. Some of New York’s best chefs are coming together on November 14th to help provide education to children in rural Africa.The third annual “Chefs for Impact” fundraising dinner, held this year at The Bowery Hotel, will feature a spectacular multi-course gourmet tasting menu, cocktail reception, live music, and an auction with one-of-a-kind items. All proceeds from “Chefs for Impact” will benefit Impact Network, a New York-based non-profit organization that brings e-Learning to rural Africa. -Five-Course Wine Dinner at Graceful Rose with Raphael Wines: Graceful Rose will serve a five-course wine dinner paired with Raphael Wines on Wednesday, November 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $60 per person, plus tax and gratuity. - Smoothe Laser & Medi Spa Launch Party/ Grand Opening Celebration:  Proudly serving the community since 2004, Smoothe Laser & Medi Spa is back to its roots on 25A in East Setauket. Owner Debbie Stevens says “We’re thrilled to be back in the

- ‘Making It’ on Stage and Screen, Casting Seminar: Are you an aspiring actor? Are you a parent of a talented youth? Want to know the inside scoop on how to make it in 'SHOW BIZ'? Or at least, how to start.   This informational session will answer all your questions - from the pros who know! Casting Director Jessica Kelly, who is currently casting "The Blacklist ," NBC's largest hit show of this season (starring James Spader ), will be part of a panel that will address current topics and share trade secrets that have been obtained from years of professional experience. Jessica began her career training at the Gateway Acting School, and assisted school director & founder Robin Joy Allan in the Gateway casting department.  This was her first foray into Casting.  Jessica was NY Casting for the pilot of  The Carrie Diaries starring Brendan Dooling, who plays Walt on the show. Mr. Dooling is planning to make a guest appearance on the Casting Seminar panel. Brendan is a Gateway Acting School alumni.
