Here's a look at what's happening in Miller Place-Rocky Point this week.
- Weight Loss Seminar: Dr. Arif Ahmad and John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson have been jointly recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence since 2007 and now offer a comprehensive program including nutritional support, psychological help, exercise programs and surgery. Thousands of patients have benefited from this program, which is recognized as a premier program in Long Island. Physicians, nutritionists and staff provide the support and help you need to be successful and get your life back. The class starts Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Mather Hospital.
- PepsiCo Superbowl Celebration. PepsiCo’s #PEPCITY will visit New York City as part of a free, three-day celebration of Super Bowl XLVIII and its hosts, New York and New Jersey, at Bryant Park in New York City. Designed to serve as a large-scale “thank you gift” to New York, the three-day celebration will transform a section of Bryant Park and offer the public complimentary tastes of unique, artisanal fare that features PepsiCo products while incorporating Broadway, art, sports and culture displays into multi-dimensional presentations of classic city experiences. The enclosed event experience will span 10,000 square feet in midtown Manhattan’s Bryant Park, and include an 80-foot wide by 40 foot high custom-designed dome that will house numerous stages and a rotating continuum of diverse performances that celebrate the heart and soul of the city. - Strong Island Roller Derby: SIDR's first recruitment session of 2014 is right around the corner! Women over 21, you're invited to SIDR's open house on January 28th. You'll have the option to participate in a free bootcamp of basic derby skills, meet other members and learn more about the fast growing sport of women's roller derby. - Digital Photography Basics: This is a general introductory class for all digital cameras. Topics covered will include camera shooting modes, white balance, ISO, shooting techniques getting your images out of the camera and more. Please bring your camera and instruction manual to class. Instructor is Professional Photographer and Certified Photographic Counselor John Spoltore. Class begins Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Port Jefferson Free Library.
